For the past year or so I have started watching Brothers & Sisters on ABC.  First, it was just fun, but lately, I have learned a lot.

For those of you who don’t know the show, it is about a family with 5 children (all grown), but when there father dies, mayhem ensues.  There is a lot I could go into here, but I’ll only focus on the main thing that has caught my attention.

One of the sons is gay and has a husband.  I won’t even go into my Republican spiel here.  I want to talk about the Biblical implications that are so clearly shown in this show.  Last season, they tried to have a child.  Ever since their unsuccessful attempts with a surrogate, they have had many different issues surface in their “marriage.” Now I’m not saying that husbands and wives don’t face these issues, but what they are facing is natural.  A child requires a man and a woman.  Two husbands or two wives is absolutely not natural.  (this issue also surfaces on Grey’s Anatomy where two girlfriends almost break up over a future child)

Tonight’s show really made me sad for how this generation faces marriage.  It surfaces that one of the husbands cheated.  Biblically, I find this a cause for divorce (granted they really aren’t married in God’s eyes).  Apparently the whole family feels the same way….great! But that’s a bit hypocritical. You can’t only believe part of God’s truth.  You must accept it all.

Sin has entered this world, and none of us make the right decision every single time.  But it is a weak argument to only hold marriage and the rights that come with it as sacred once you are in it yourself.  If you don’t hold it sacred before the commitment, you can’t hold it sacred after.

Praise the Lord for a forgiving and loving God who accepts us with all of our faults.  He has already suffered and died for our sins, all we have to do is accept his free gift of grace!! Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Once He comes into your life, there will still be struggles, and mistakes, but through forgiveness, God helps us move on to bigger and better things!!

Romans 10:9 “if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
